My French Lunch Break

While studying abroad in Cannes I grew to appreciate the importance the French place on their "dejeuner" (lunch). French lunch breaks are commonly 2 hours in order to give people time to truly relax from work, cook and enjoy their most extravagant meal of the day. This blog is dedicated to the idea of taking some extra time in the middle of each day to truly appreciate the gifts of food, nature, friendship, family, art and health.

Spotify = Musical Bliss

In honor of Twitter's #MusicMonday and because I just signed up for the Premium version, thought I'd give a quick shout out to the genius that is Spotify. For those of you that don't know, it's an online music database that contains practically any song your heart could desire. You sign up for a free account and can search and listen to all the music you want. You star your favorites and build playlists, and Spotify syncs with Facebook so you can see what your friends are listening to and message them songs.

Musicians partner with Spotify and are paid a set amount every time their songs are played, so it's a win-win! The Premium version ($10/month) gives you access to the entire Spotify library on your mobile devices and takes away the 30 second ads that play every 30 minutes or so on the free version. And the iPhone app is awesome to boot.

To me, music is happiness, so Spotify is magical. And talk about a great business model! Look out iTunes... Big shout out to my friend Luce who introduced me to Spotify back in June before it even came to the States. For those of you that don't have an account, get one! (watch the "Story About Spotify" video here if you need more convincing)

Happy Listening.

Outside Lands

I applied to be a volunteer at this year's Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco, and I just found out today that my application was accepted!! Just a chance to get out of the OC and take a trip to SF will be awesome, let alone getting a free day pass to Outside Lands in exchange for a six hour volunteer shift! So excited, just had to share :)

In Search of Vinyls

After quite the adventure to meet up with the girl selling it, this funky record player is now the newest and coolest addition to my apartment! Now just need to grow my vinyl collection...

Suggestions for cool vinyl shops in the OC/LA area?

Musical Inspiration-The Script

"Soul is not a black thing or a white thing, it's a human thing"
--Mark (member of The Script)

My life would not be the same without music. It is an art form that has the power to change my mood, to give me the energy to wake up each morning (yes my alarm clock tone is Tik Tok right now...), and great lyrics can even make me take on a new perspective. My roommate Telli recently introduced me to this Irish band, The Script, and I am obsessed, so I wanted to share their artistic talent on this blog. Take a listen to "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" during your lunch break and see if you agree! I am definitely biased based on my love of the Irish, but I think the lyrics are great.

"'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be
Thinkin maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet
And you'll see me waiting for you on our corner of the street
So I'm not moving, I'm not moving"
