So I am currently working as the Marketing Intern for a private school chain, and I work almost three full days a week, business attire and all. Fortunately I love my internship so far, but it definitely makes me think about what life will be like in a year when I am a graduate and have a real job! It is exciting and scary and nerve-racking all at once. I have been a student for so long that I just can't imagine not going to school anymore.
Watching The Office tonight (I'm a little behind and had to catch up in preparation for this Thursday's episode when Pam has her baby!!) and talking to my friend Candice made me think even more about the dynamics of the office environment and how each person truly has a unique niche and personality that they bring to the team as a whole.
One particular character from my internship office that stands out is this adorable woman Hilda. She worked at one of our elementary schools as the lunch lady for upwards of 40 years and then was offered an office job in our reprographics department. She is now 85 but still fit as a fiddle! I worked with her this morning to help stuff envelopes to be mailed and she is just so sweet and knowledgeable and genuinely interested in everything you have to say. I have such respect for her, and I hope to spend some quality lunch breaks getting to know her better and hearing more about her time working for the school and all the children she met and inspired.
I think the thing that tugged at my heart strings most about Hilda is that she reminds me so much of my Grandma, who I just recently lost in August. I had such a close relationship with my Grandma, and I would spend hours at her house enthralled by the stories of her youth and how different things used to be. I miss her every single day, and spending time with Hilda really reminded me of that. So I thought I'd share this picture which I cherish so much with all of you. She and my grandpa were madly in love from age 16 on, and this picture captures that beautifully. More of my Grandma's and Hilda's stories will be included on this blog soon :)
Have a lovely Wednesday everyone!
i know she is looking down on you and smiling!
ReplyDelete...and probably wanting to throw in those sexual jokes of hers at the most opportune moments ; )
